Trump lawyer Alina Habba joined the growing anti-Taylor Swift feeling on the right, particularly the MAGA right, posting a great meme on her Instagram account that suggested there should be more women like Habba and fewer like Taylor Swift.
It all started with a pro-Habba post posted to X (formerly Twitter) by an account going by “Desiree.” In the post, “Desiree” posted a picture of Habba next to a picture of Taylor Swift and captioned the photos, “Who thinks this country needs a lot more women like Alina Habba, and a lot less like Taylor Swift?
”
It was unclear whether the post was just an anti-Taylor Swift post, just a pro-Habba and thus pro-Trump post, or if it was supposed to be about women choosing more serious and potentially meaningful careers in fields like the law rather than something like entertainment. Regardless, Habba evidently liked the post and its message, as she took to Instagram to repost it, doing so on her Instagram story:
Swift backed Biden in 2020. Posting about her support for Vice President Kamala Harris on what was then called Twitter, Swift said, “So apt that it’s come out on the night of the VP debate. Gonna be watching and supporting @KamalaHarris by yelling at the tv a lot.”
Further, she also spoke that election cycle to V Magazine in its Thought Leaders Issue about what she supported Biden and Harris. She said, “The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included.”
Now, with Swift more popular than ever and rumors going around that she could swing the election Biden’s way by supporting him again, many on the right have taken to attacking Swift. Many have predicted that won’t go well, such as a pop culture academic who commented to Politico on the matter, saying, “The Swiftie fan is arguably the most immersive and intense fandom in the U.S. right now. And to anger them is just political folly. They are a political force that I don’t think anyone really should mess with.”
Trump, for his part, has stayed out of the Taylor Swift fray and has instead been sounding off on the court cases he’s facing. In one late-January post, for instance, Trump wrote, “I am in the process, along with my team, of interviewing various law firms to represent me in an Appeal of one of the most ridiculous and unfair Witch Hunts our Country has ever seen – The defamation Sham presided over by a Clinton appointed, highly partisan, Trump Hating Judge, Lewis Kaplan, who was, together with certain other Radical Left Democrat Judges, one of the most partisan and out of control activists that I have ever appeared before. He was a “bully” who demanded two trials, rather than one, denied me Due Process, would not allow me to put forth vital evidence (of which there was much!), and only allowed me to be on the witness stand for minutes, telling my lawyer what to ask, and telling me to only give one word answers, as his wife and friends sat in cordoned off front row seats watching with glee. This entire HOAX is a disgrace to our American System of Justice. Any lawyer who takes a TRUMP CASE is either “CRAZY,” or a TRUE AMERICAN PATRIOT. I will make my decision soon!“
Similarly, on February 3, he wrote, “Deranged Jack Smith, Letitia “Peekaboo” James, Alvin Bragg, the J6 Committee of Political Thugs (who have deleted and destroyed all evidence and findings), and all of the rest of the Biden prosecutors and “bad people who hate our Country,” are just as guilty as Fani Willis. It’s Biden Investigations for purposes of ELECTION INTERFERENCE. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!“
