A huge python accidentally got itself caught on an antelope’s horn, much like a fish on a hook, as it started ɢᴏʀɢɪɴɢ on the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ animal.
“I was ᴏᴠᴇʀᴡʜᴇʟᴍᴇᴅ by this and couldn’t believe that I came across this sight bearing in mind that this is a very rare opportunity to film this. The incident was filmed inside South Africa’s Kruger Park .The footage shows the ᴅɪsᴛʀᴇssᴇᴅ python trying to free itself from the horns of the dukier, a small species of antelope native to Sub-Saharan Africa, while coiled around the beast. The tussle was caught on camera by a tourist who sent the footage to Latest Sightings. Here the python starts ᴅᴇᴠᴏᴜʀɪɴɢ its ᴘʀᴇʏ before being ɪᴍᴘᴀʟᴇᴅ . Ouch! The moment the horn impales the snake was caught on camera. A horn can be seen sticking out of the body as the snake shows obvious signs of ᴀɢᴏɴʏ. The ᴅɪsᴛʀᴇssᴇᴅ python retreats back from ꜰᴇᴀsᴛɪɴɢ on the antelope as it attempts to free itself. African rock Pythons can grow up to 12ft and in rare cases even longer. Some comments chastised the tourist who filmed the ordeal saying they caused the ɪᴍᴘᴀʟɪɴɢ by sᴄᴀʀɪɴɢ the snake forcing it to retreat quickly. ‘Tourists got the snake to retreatn (sic) ᴘɪᴇʀᴄᴇ himself like that,’ wrote HellaFlush070. African rock Pythons are non-ᴠᴇɴᴏᴍᴏᴜs and ᴋɪʟʟ its ᴘʀᴇʏ by constriction. After restraining their ᴘʀᴇʏ and the snake coils around it ᴛɪɢʜᴛᴇɴɪɴɢ its grip every time the victim breathes out.Experts say ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ is usually caused by cardiac ᴀʀʀᴇsᴛ as opposed to ᴀsᴘʜʏxɪᴀᴛɪᴏɴ or ᴄʀᴜsʜɪɴɢ. Once the word of this sighting got around, there was some loud discussion going on and believes that this ꜰʀɪɢʜᴛᴇɴᴇᴅ the snake, causing it to retreat. As the python retreated from it’s meal, the horns of the duiker ᴘɪᴇʀᴄᴇd through his head. Luckily, the python could wiggle and jiggle about and set itself free.
