Pictures taken in a murky Australian swamp show a python squeezing the life from a larger animal before swallowing it whole.
The olive python, the second-largest snake in Australia, has a protruding midsection that reveals the size of the crocodile behind its scaly skin. In one horrifying image, the crocodile’s ridged tail is indented on the snake’s throat.
Near spite of the obvious danger, pythons frequently hunt crocodiles, according to specialists, as kayaker Martin Muller discovered while descending the wetlands in Mount Isa.
According to Michelle Jones, owner of GG Wildlife Rescue Inc., she keeps two olive pythons as pets.
They frequently consume anything that they can fit in their mouths, she noted.
The pythons may “unhinge their jaw” to lengthen their bite, Ms. Jones continued, and it is not uncommon for them to try to eat a crocodile.
Freshwater crocodiles, in contrast to their saltwater relatives, do not typically attack people unless they feel threatened.
Additionally, the olive python does not sting.
The pictures were subsequently uploaded to the GG Wildlife Rescue Inc. Facebook page, where they received 10,000 reactions.
Many people were astounded that a python could defeat and devour a crocodile, and some questioned whether Mr. Muller had put himself in danger in order to take the remarkable pictures.
‘Amazing pictures! I thought the croc would have won,’ commented one user.
‘My only question is why the f*** would any sane human being be kayaking in a place where there are snakes that can swallow a crocodile whole?’ asked another.
‘This is definitely on my list of top 10 ways I don’t want to die.’
