Therefore, it should come as no surprise that in the 1950s, the US and its ally Canada planned to create a flying saucer:

The United States Air Force finally declassified a memo titled “Project 1794 Final Development Summary Report 2 April—30 May 1956” in 2012. To find and stop Soviet long-range bombers would be its task. Its otherworldly form would additionally have the impact of inflicting psychological warfare on the adversary.
