Therefore, it should come as no surprise that in the 1950s, the US and its ally Canada planned to create a flying saucer:
One that might soar to incredible heights and speeds, hover over battlegrounds, and rule the sky for many years to come. The Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar was the result of such efforts.
The United States Air Force finally declassified a memo titled “Project 1794 Final Development Summary Report 2 April—30 May 1956” in 2012. It described an aircraft that could travel [QUOTE] “between Mach 3 and Mach 4, with a ceiling of over 100,000 ft. and a maximum range with allowances of about 1,000 nautical miles.” Schematics included in the study showed an imposing and ground-breaking form.
Project 1794 was intended to be America’s top-secret flying saucer and was jointly developed with the Avro Canada aircraft manufacturing firm. To find and stop Soviet long-range bombers would be its task. Its otherworldly form would additionally have the impact of inflicting psychological warfare on the adversary.
